CBD Dosage: Finding What Works for You

When using CBD, your body will ultimately determine what dosage works best for you. The best way to establish your ideal CBD dose depends on several factors and will require some experimentation.

Here’s our CBD dosage guide so you can decide where to start and how to safely increase your dosage if needed.

How CBD Dosage Works

When starting a daily CBD routine, remember that everyone is different. If you’re unsure where to start, the instructions on the packaging are the best place to start. However, you may find that a smaller dose works just fine or that a larger one helps your symptoms more.

With CBD Oils, you need to consider the concentration of the oil you’re using. The most common CBD oil concentrations range from 500mg to 1,500mg, and to calculate your dosage, you need to know how many milligrams are in a drop.

For example, if the bottle contains 500mg of CBD in a 30ml bottle, you will divide 500 by 30 to get 16.6mg of CBD per ml. So if a single drop is 0.05ml, then one drop would equal 0.83mg of CBD oil, and a full dropper (about 1ml) will contain 16.6ml.

The same goes for CBD vapes. To calculate the dosage, look at how much CBD is in one cartridge. For example, if the vape cartridge contains 333mg of CBD with approximately 600 hits in each one, then each puff will have about 0.55mg of CBD.

CBD Edibles, on the other hand, usually come with a set dosage per serving, so all you need to do is calculate how many servings you need to reach the desired amount.

Increasing Your CBD Dosage

If you don’t feel any change in symptoms after a few weeks of taking the same dose, you may need to increase your dosage. Try to only increase your dosage by 5-10mg at a time. If a larger amount still doesn’t work for you, wait another few weeks before increasing it again.

Most people find a CBD dosage of about 40-60mg ideal for treating common conditions or improving their health and wellness. However, everyone is different, and what works for someone else may not work for you.

Bioavailability

Each type of CBD product will affect you differently. For example, if you’re vaping CBD, you may only need a few puffs, and the effects will kick in quickly. Whereas if you’re taking a CBD edible, it may take longer to kick in, and you may need a larger dose to experience relief. This is because of something called bioavailability, which is the amount of CBD that your body can absorb and use.

Since different products have different bioavailability levels, you may need more of one type and less of the other to experience the same effects. For example, since CBD topicals don’t cross any blood-brain barriers, they have a much lower bioavailability than vaping, which directly enters your bloodstream via your lungs. Therefore, you may need more or a CBD topical to experience the same potential benefits.

Taking CBD Every Day

For CBD to be the most effective, take it regularly. The effects of CBD are cumulative, so if you take it every day, the benefits will gradually add up over time. Taking CBD every day will allow your body to maintain a steady level of CBD to manage symptoms more effectively.

The best time to take CBD will depend on why you’re taking it. For example, if you’re using it for pain relief, you may want to split your dosage up and take it throughout the day. Or, if you’re using CBD to manage anxiety or help you sleep, taking it before bed may be best.
